General Craftiness
I consider myself to be pretty good at arts and crafts. I enjoy them enough.
I think growing up as an only child while under the care of only my father during my younger years might have created that in me. I'm not athletic by any means so I never played sports. I didn't like to read, and plopping down in front of the TV all day really wasn't my thing. So, I learned to occupy my time creating self inspired art projects. Meanwhile, my dad, who until recent years never really sat still for very long, was constantly out puttering around in the garage somewhere. He was taught by his father to be handy. Many days I would be bored enough to be right along side him helping him build furniture, repair something or restore an old car. Unfortunately, I never really gained any of those specific skills, but I did pick up the desire to do something creative and to rarely sit still.
As I got older and started spending more time with my mom and my grandmothers, I slowly started picking up other more detailed skills. I learned to crochet, to quilt, to sew, and any other little project I could hold on my lap and work on. In high school, I loved art class and took about every one I could. The only problem was that I wasn't exceptional enough at it to really pursue it, but it did teach me how to hold my own in most mediums and understand most techniques.
All of these skills together gave me enough general knowledge to create little projects for this or that, and to maybe create something unique that others might enjoy. I won't be opening an art gallary or hosting craft show on HGTV, but I'd love to pass on some inspiration. I love this stuff.
